Print RecipeIngredients
- 240g Beef Mince
- 1 Carrot
- Central American Style Spice Mix
- 1 Pack of Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Onion and Garlic
- Tomato Ketchup
- 30g Mature Cheddar Cheese
- 2 Burger Buns
- 1 Avocado
- ½ Lime
Instructions
Step 1: Start with the Mince
Heat up a large frying pan with a drizzle of oil over high heat. Once it’s hot, add the mince and cook until it turns a golden brown colour. As it cooks, break it up with a spoon for about 3-4 minutes. During this time, prepare the carrot by trimming and coarsely grating it (no need to peel!). After the mince has browned, drain off any excess fat, then mix in the carrot and Central American spice mix. Stir everything together for 2 minutes.
Step 2: Build the Sauce
Next, add the chopped tomatoes and ketchup to the mince. Season the mixture with salt and pepper and let it simmer until it becomes thick and rich in tomato flavour, which should take about 5-6 minutes. If the beef mixture appears a bit dry, don’t hesitate to add a splash of water.
Step 3: Cheese, Please!
While the sauce is simmering, get your grill pre-heated to high and coarsely grate the cheddar cheese.
Step 4: Prepare the Ciabatta
Cut the ciabattas in half horizontally and place them on a baking tray with the cut side facing up. Once the beef is ready, divide it among the ciabattas and sprinkle the grated cheese over the top. Place the tray on the top shelf of your grill for 3-4 minutes until the cheese has melted and is nicely golden.
Step 5: Whip Up the Guacamole
While the ciabattas are under the grill, slice the avocado lengthways. Twist each half to separate them and remove the stone. Scoop out the flesh into a bowl, add a squeeze of lime juice, a drizzle of olive oil, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Use the back of a fork to mash it all together. Taste and add more lime if you think it’s needed.
Step 6: Plate and Serve
Finally, divide the hot ciabattas filled with the delicious mixture between plates and top each with the freshly made guacamole. Now it’s time to enjoy your meal!
